We've had blue tits and robins a-plenty, and three or four chaffinches. Nothing more exciting yet, but it was a flurry of activity, and another blue tit in the lean-to... Our bird tables take a little while to warm up. At the moment it's blue tits and sparrows and the robins. The others arrive as word spreads...

Re: Hoping for a two-hawfinch winter…

LOVE the photo of the hawfinch - what a beautiful bird! We had two blue tits stuck in the lean-to yesterday, trying to get a little warmth and attracted by our bright rows of chillis, I guess!! Apparently, our house is in a very good birdspotting position, according to a friend a few miles away, so I shall keep you posted! So far, nothing but hoards of blue tits and a couple of blackbirds. We have nesting swallows, though, in the summer. I love their return!!

Re: In search of the bonobo

I love the bonobos - they're so gentle and altruistic compared to chimps. I sometimes wonder if we have 'chimp' people and 'bonobo' people! I'm really glad to hear the Vallee des Singes will have some there - chimps are soooo violent! Last time I was there, several of them were just attacking each other with sticks. It was almost like a night out in Liverpool without the cider!! My favourite, though, are the spider and squirrel monkeys. Or the gibbons. Or the capuchins. Or the woolly monkeys. Or the marmosets. Or the gorillas. In fact, all of them. I'd quite happily live in the Vallee des Singes, or Monkey World, its English counterpart.
